50 Websites (and More) for Your Design Inspiration

A few months ago we launched a network of five niche gallery sites. For a long time this blog has included inspirational posts that showcase the work of various designers, so it seemed like a natural extension to launch the galleries. During the past few months the archives have been growing at each of the galleries, and they are becoming more valuable resources for designers who are looking for inspiration. Each gallery now includes between 185 and 350 items on display.

In this post I’d like to showcase a brief sampling of the inspiration that is available at each of the galleries. There are ten items shown from each gallery. The text links will lead you to the source, and by clicking on the images you will be led to the pages on the galleries.

Why do design bloggers always have galleries where women are depicted sub-standardly? Sites like Naked City Studios proliferate the stereotype that women’s bodies are objects of pleasure that can be sexually exploited.

Those sites aren’t worthy of mention on this blog.

I think your site has been pretty good about not posting those kinds of sites. However, I see at least one in this listing, and any self-respecting woman should stand up against those types of sites.

    • Vandelay Website Design, September 3, 2009

      Hi Diane,
I respect your opinion and I appreciate the fact that you stated it tactfully. I don’t disagree with what you are saying, but there’s really not very much skin showing or suggestive nature to that photo. Honestly, you can see more skin than that by going to the mall, or just about anywhere else in public, and looking around. I do try to keep the content of this blog to be unobjectionable, and knowing that readers feel that way I will keep it in mind for the future.

It’s always a shock when you search a post a see your own site published… thank so much for listing http://www.brianhoff.net among these other beautiful sites. :)

really cool stuff you sharing. thanks

  • Martin Bean, September 3, 2009

    Dianne’s comments were laughable.

Being a red-blooded male, I never once thought of using a woman’s body as an “object of pleasure” while reading down the page. Hell, I didn’t even know there was a woman on said website!

These people who find offense in every corner of the world should just stay at home if it’s that bad. And definitely off the Internet. You know? Where 90% of it IS actually pornographic content.

  • Claudio Lucero, September 3, 2009

    Dianne,

If by “Naked City Studios” you mean “Naked Studios” the picture of the woman has NOTHING to do with any sex exploitation. She’s a pregnant woman, and that’s a photograph from one of our projects called Mommy’sVoice.com where a pregnant woman can record her voice for her baby. So this couldn’t be more innocent, pure and lovely. Each background photo belongs to a specific project in the portfolio.

By the way, thank you guys for including our portfolio as part of your great selection.

    Cheers!

  • Ashely Adams : Sticker Printing, September 5, 2009

Cool collections. Some of them are really good like the Jimi Hendrix. The Big Bad Collab and Photo Argus look professional. But I really didn’t like Strawberry Fields Forever at all. The style is too cliché.
