High Resolution WordPress Photography Theme
Published in WordPress ThemesHigh Resolution is a free WordPress theme for photographers. It uses a stunning full-size background slide show that makes your homepage an effective showcase for your best work.
Theme features include:
- Customizable jQuery full-screen slideshow
- Portfolio page template
- Upload photos and create your own custom galleries
- Upload your own logo, or just display the site title in text
- Widget-ready sidebar
The High Resolution theme is great for showcasing your photos regardless of whether you specialize in landscapes, weddings, portraits, or any other type of photography. You’ll have full control over the photos that are shown in the slideshow, and you can even customize the transition effects. Of course, you’ll also be able to take advantage of WordPress’s blogging capabilities to communicate with visitors and to display your work.
You can create as many photo galleries as you want, and since the theme uses WordPress’s custom navigation menu feature you have full control over the links that are shown in the header menu.
Documentation for the theme is available here.

Do you know of anyone who’s doing porfolio WordPress templates that allow for the alphabetical, industry type, and project type listing of portfolio pieces? I’m also interested in full page photo versions.
Thank you in advance for your help…
Hi Will,
I’m sorry but I’m not very familiar with the different WordPress themes that are out there. I would recommend browsing through ThemeForest, they have loads of portfolio themes.
Hey, this is cool! I always like visiting websites with portfolios of photographs or graphics. I think this is the best theme for those who want to have the impact of their work be more powerful. Can the CSS be tweaked?
Yes, when you download the theme you’ll be able to make any changes of customizations to the files.
is there a way to make the home page slides not cut off the top of pictures? Or in other words, have the top of the pictures I have uploaded start at the bottom of the menu?
Hi Dan,
I didn’t personally code this theme so I was just looking into the theme files to check it out. The center of the background image should be showing up in the center of the screen (it’s not the case of the top of the photo being lined up with the top of the browser and behind the menu). The Supersized script (http://buildinternet.com/project/supersized/) is used for the full background slideshow. I believe you could edit the CSS in css/supersized.css within the theme folder to position the top of the photo below the menu. I can’t say for sure without testing it, but there may be some issues depending on what screen the visitors is using. For example, as it is coded now I believe the center of the photo will be in the center of the screen regardless of the size of the screen. If you change how the photo is positioned it may line up and look good on your screen, but when someone uses a different size screen it may not look as good.
Thanks Steven,
I found options in the js file. I know have the picture starting at the top of the browser, but the menu is overlaid over it. Now I just have to figure out how high the menu is in pixels and add that much dead space to the top of my pictures.
Dan,
The header is 80 pixels high.
such a wonderful job you done man….. portfolio segment is really very nice!
Doesn’t seem to work in IE8? or is this just me?
Logan,
I’ll look into it.
Awesome template where graphics are key. However, I’ve re-read the documentation, but am stumped on the bottom half of pg 39. I can’t seem to get “galleries” to show up on my menu customization screen. I know I’ve added plenty of galleries, but can’t figure this part out. What am I missing?
Here is my Menu screen: http://tinypic.com/r/2craveo/6
Here is my Gallery screen: http://i47.tinypic.com/2wcra01.png
Thanks in advance,
Saïd
Saïd,
Go to the menu screen. Look near the top right of the screen and you should see “screen options”. Click on “screen options” and then check the box for “gallery”. Now if you scroll down you should see the galleries listed so that you can add them to the menu. Hopefully that will take care of the issue for you.
Hi, this is a really great theme, but for some reason the custom.css doesn’t work. Any changes I make in their don’t get shown on the site (if I make them in the styles.css it does work, though). Any thoughts?
Adam,
To use the custom.css file you’ll need to add code to the header.php file. Add this
below the calls to the other CSS files and it should work. The custom.css file isn’t called in the header file by default because 90% of the theme’s users won’t use the custom.css file. That should probably be added to the comments in the custom.css file to make it more clear. Thanks for pointing it out.
Really awesome design…Will use it for next portfolio blog..Thanks for the theme..
background slider not work in ie8 and ie7…………plz help
khurram,
We are working on this issue now. It should be fixed within a few days.
When I use image from my digital camera (4000×3000) for the background, the top and bottom of the images seem to be chopped off, and the background is just the middle portion of the image. Is there an optimal length/width ratio to ensure the full image is displayed?
Jon,
It depends on the resolution that the visitor is using to view the site. There are so many different resolutions being used that it is impossible to say one is the way to go. According to StatCounter data, the most popular resolution is 1366×768, but it only accounts for 20% of users.
IE7 and IE8 issue with the slider has been fixed.
I am finding trouble building the menu: i get a 404 error while loading the gallery (eg. under portfolio -> architecture)… what am i doing wrong?
Hi Martijn,
Have you set the permalinks? We recommend setting permalinks to “post name” (that is covered in the General WordPress Settings part of the documentation). I’m not 100% sure I understand where you are having the issue. It sounds to me like you have created the menu, and when you are on the site and you click on one of the drop down items you are getting the 404 error. If that is not the case, let me know. You can email me at info@vandelaydesign.com if the permalinks setting does not fix the issue.
It works just great! Thank you for your quick support!
Did you mention that the permalink issue is not descibed in the manual?

For now: thanx again for your support, and theme!
Hello,
I want to ask that can i use the current theme as a starting theme to build further my theme based on this template for marketplace like themeforest or mojo ?
Hi Rizvi,
The theme is GPL licensed, so you can use it as a basis to create your own theme as long as it is also GPL licensed. I’m not sure about this from personal experience (I have never sold at ThemeForest) but I have read that Envato does not allow authors to use a true GPL license.
Hi
I have installed the High Res template, follwed the instructions for adding a slide (picture) to slides to run on the Home page, set up the home page, blog etc as per documentation, BUT
when i preview slide or home page, or anything, the picture doesnt appear and all i get is the spinning wheel and it just hangs there. I have deleted and re-installed the template and the preview (before activating) is still doing the same. Note it seems to be ok with Twenty twelve and when i visit site or preview twenty twelve or twenty eleven the picture appears on the home page no problem. Help please!
Martin
Hi Martin,
What is the URL of the site? The URL left with this comment does not have a site, so I can’t see anything. If you’d like me to take a look at it you can send the URL, WordPress username and password to info@vandelaydesign.com.
Steven
Thanks for response see your emails
cheers
Martin
Hi Martin and Steven,
Like Martin, I have been the same problem with slides. The pictures don’t appear and I only can see a progress gif.
Can you give me the solution?
Thanks,
Hi Sergio,
Martin’s issue was solved by entering a time for the slide show delay time in the theme settings. He set it to 7000ms.
The navigations buttons on the home page are not working all that well, and the slide show will settle on a photo, and then flash the photo after it, but very quickly go back to the other photo. Any fixes?
Hi Keecia,
When I visit your site it seems to be working fine. If you’re still having problems you can send your WordPress username and password to info@vandelaydesign.com and I will login and take a look at the slides from the WP admin.
i cant seem to have my screen show up without this white menu or block on my screen…can you tell me what to do to change this to where its just a photo on my screen my screen

Please help me check. Thanks
Hi Adeola,
Looks like you changed themes.
Hi,
The gallery page displays 10 images before cutting to the next page. Is it possible to decrease the limit to something less? I’m trying to do just 6 images per page.
Thanks!
Hi Christian,
Yes, change the number of posts to display in the WordPress settings.
Hi!
First of all, thanks for a great theme, I tryed about 20 or 25 themes before I found this, and they all suck at some point =) Only one question – is it possible to do some kind of adoptation for a tablets/phones? I use bg image 1920×1080 – works great for almost all of desktop/laptop computers, but its kinda bulky for mobile devices. Thanks a lot!
Cheers, Notakishi!
Hi Notakishi,
It is possible, but it would involve some customization to the theme. One thing you might want to consider is using a WordPress plugin or a mobile theme that will show a different mobile-optimized theme to visitors on a phone or a tablet.
Thanks for a quick response, Im gonna look for it right now.
