Double Exposure Photography WordPress Theme

Published in WordPress Themes

Photographers need to have a website that will do an effective job of showcasing their work. The Double Exposure theme offers 2 color schemes (light and dark) and a large homepage slideshow that will do just that. Each of the color schemes uses a subtle textured background.

Theme features include:

  • 2 color schemes
  • Customizable slideshow on the homepage
  • Upload your own logo, or display site name in text
  • Easily create photo galleries with a lightbox effect
  • Widget-ready sidebar

Double Exposure Photography WordPress Theme

Since photos should be the center of attention in any photography portfolio site, Double Exposure includes functionality that gives you control to display your photos in impressive ways. You can easily add large photos to your homepage slideshow and even customize the transition effects without touching any code. You can create photo galleries for your different types of photos and display those photos in a stylish gallery on the site.

With WordPress you can of course maintain a blog at your portfolio site, which is a great way to attract visitors and to communicate. The theme also uses WordPress’s custom navigation menu functionality, so you have full control over the links that you want to include in both the header and footer menus. The header menu supports drop downs. The footer also has an area for text, such as your copyright or address.

If you have a logo that you want to use on the site, all you have to do is upload it through the WordPress dashboard. If you don’t upload a logo your site name will be displayed as text in the header. Please note that the theme demo and screenshots use the Photoworks Logo Template, which is not included with the theme.

Additional screenshots of various pages and the alternate color scheme are shown lower on this page.

Documentation for the theme is available here.

Hi,

I am trying this theme in my personal web page. This looks fantastic, thanks for creating and sharing.

I wanted some tips on how to add the exif information onto the images in the gallery automatically. I tried some wp plugins and it works for blog posts, but not on the photographs in gallery

Any help would he much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
Naveen Chenoli

Steven Snell July 2nd, 2012

Hi Naveen,
I’m not sure exactly how the exif data works in WordPress. The photos in the galleries are technically featured images, so if a plugin (or coding tweaks to the theme) works with featured images I would think it should work with this theme.

Brian July 2nd, 2012

Hey, I was just curious about the slider image on the home page. Mine only seems to cycle between two images even though I have 5+ added in the admin panel. Any suggestions?

Steven Snell July 3rd, 2012

Hi Brian,
I’m seeing several images in your slider right now but it looks like you are using one of our other themes.

Hi,
I’m trying to integrate Fotomoto into my website to automata and manage the selling, printing, and shipping for me. I’m not sure this service is fully compatible with your Double Exposure template. Maybe I’m not selecting the correct library, but I’m guessing it’s colorbox due to clues I pick up in the CSS code.

Is this something you can fix, or help with? I really like this theme, but if I have to dump it in favour of a compatible one with Fotomoto I will, as practicality takes precedence over cosmetic appearance for my needs.

Fotomoto have suggested I link this page to you:

http://support.fotomoto.com/customer/portal/articles/71504-partner-with-us

Thank you.

Steven Snell August 9th, 2012

Marcus,
I’m sorry but I’m not familiar with Fotomoto, so I have no idea if it would work with this theme or not. I looked at the link but it doesn’t say anything about how to integrate it, it just says you only need a few lines of code.

Maybe this link will help, as it lists the libraries and plugins it currently supports:

http://support.fotomoto.com/customer/portal/articles/7452-what-scripts-and-libraries-does-fotomoto-support-

What is happening is that I’m missing the buy buttons on the larger images in the galleries. They show on the thumbnails, but then it only sends fotomoto the cropped thumbnail image and not the full version as there seems to be no way to link the thumbs to the large image with this theme.

further help may be found here:

http://support.fotomoto.com/customer/portal/articles/8667-missing-the-fotomoto-buy-buttons-

Steven Snell August 9th, 2012

Marcus,
On the second link that you provided it says: “Note: only the version numbers shown have been tested with Fotomoto – newer versions may work but are not supported.” The version of ColorBox listed is 1.3.15. The theme is using version 1.3.19, so that may be the issue.

We try to provide support for installing our themes and getting them up and running as they are intended to work, but this integration isn’t an issue that we can support on a free theme. Sorry.

Yep thanks for this awesome theme. Just have a question. Is it possible to stop the automatic transition of the home page slideshow ? what file should I modify ?

thanks a lot for your help.

Olivier

Hello forgot my request, I just figured out that is was a nivo slider and I know how to change the properties… sorry :-)

Miles October 7th, 2012

Hi, I really love the theme. Clean CSS files and logical folder location made for easy visual customization. All the features are there, but I’m hitting one snag…

I can easily upload many photos through the upload interface. However, now that I have just uploaded 30+ pics in a matter of seconds, I’m finding that I have to tediously set each one as a photograph (add titles, select galleries, set featured image, etc.) before it shows up in the selected gallery page… Isn’t there any way to bulk-add images to a specific gallery, assign titles based on file-name and preview/save the results without having to muck around with so many clicks?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Keenen October 7th, 2012

Hi, I just downloaded this theme and would like to customize it. For some reason, I can’t seem to add a slideshow on the homepage and add galleries in my portfolio page. Do you think you can give me some insight on how to do this? Thanks in advance.

Steven Snell October 7th, 2012

Hi Keenan,
Did you follow the steps in the theme documentation? There is a link to the documentation above. If you’re still having trouble after that please email your URL, WordPress username and password to info@vandelaydesign.com and I will look into it.

Steven Snell October 7th, 2012

Hi Miles,
No, there is no other way to do it. Sorry.

Ole Houen October 11th, 2012

Hi,
I have been installing the double exposure theme on my web page. Looks really great.
Found one small hick-up. On my gallery pages a headline is created with the name of my gallery and then the word “photographs”. Any way I can change this word to the danish translation?
Br, Ole

Steven Snell October 11th, 2012

Hi Ole Houen,
That is how the theme is intended to work. You can edit it by making a change to the taxonomy.php file. Go to Appearance > Editor and select the taxonomy.php file. Find this code:

<?php _e('Photographs'); ?>

Change Photographs to whatever text you want to use.

Ole Houen October 11th, 2012

Thx, that did the trick :-) Now I’m one happy man.

Bob Tuck October 15th, 2012

Hi guys

Great theme…am loving it…however, being a complete newbie, I’ve got a problem the solution for which is either staring me in the face…or I’m approaching this all wrong!

I’m not using any blog function, rather, just using the theme as a normal web site.

I have menus titles (created from ‘pages’) along the top (above the image slider)….trouble is I also see them (the menu text) as hyperlinks replicated along the bottom right side of the footer :(

Is there any way….and apologies in advance for my ignorance…to get rid of these hyperlinks along the bottom right side???

Many thanks for any help/solution offered.

Bob

Steven Snell October 16th, 2012

Hi Bob,
Have you customized the menus? Please see the section of the documentation about the navigation menu.

Bob Tuck October 16th, 2012

Hey Steve

Thank you very much for replying.

Yup, I followed to the word the setting up of navigation menus…except I didn’t add a ‘Footer’ menu. Once I did this those hyperlinks that I didn’t want to see replicated down there disappeared! :)

I’ll either leave that footer menu blank or maybe just add a ‘Home’ navigation menu item.

Again thank you, it’s much appreciated (going off to sign up with BlueHost!) :)

Bob

Steven Snell October 17th, 2012

Hi Bob,
Glad you got it the way you want it.

Bob Tuck November 23rd, 2012

Hey Steve,

Web site finished (well, for now!) BUT one slight problem….

I can’t seem to find how to centralise the navigation/menu items in the long box immediately below the site logo (‘Home’, ‘Our Services’ etc.)

The far right item (‘The Legal Stuff’) on some browsers (IE9) gets chopped off and placed below the nav box and looks terrible :(

There’s plenty of room for all current items (and more) if they would just auto center?

Thanks if you can help…..beautiful theme!

Bob

Jeff November 29th, 2012

I am having no trouble uploading the relevant images for the slides, however the slide doesn’t show when viewing the page? get a message of error 404 can’t find page or there is a black space where the slides should be showing?

Steven Snell November 29th, 2012

Hi Jeff,
The theme documentation (linked above) goes through the process of setting up the homepage and the slider. You’ll need to create a home page, assign it the “home” template, assign that page as the static front page.

Bob Tuck December 1st, 2012

Just an update…

The resolution to my problem lay in the styles.css (center tag).

Many thanks Steve for the help via email :)

These guys are great!!

Bob

Jamison December 10th, 2012

Any way one could have a vimeo video in place of the main photo? Using the embedded video code?

Steven Snell December 10th, 2012

Hi Jamison,
The theme is not made to support video embeds.

Antonio December 24th, 2012

Hi, I have one question about the Double Exposure Photography WordPress Theme:
How can I don’t show the footer right side? Is it possible to choose the option that should be dispalyed? … may be just 3 or 4 and not all the menu?
Thanks.
Antonio

Steven Snell December 24th, 2012

Antonio,
You can control the footer menu through WordPress’s custom menu functionality. The process of setting that up is covered in the theme documentation if you need some guidance.

Stephane December 29th, 2012

Hi !

Great theme this “double exposure” !

Unfortunatly, number of slides on the main slideshow at homepage, is limited to a small number of slides (10?) ; could you give me a tip to increase this value ?

many thanks

Stephane, frome France

Steven Snell December 31st, 2012

Hi Stephanie,
The theme doesn’t limit you to 10 slides, but I wouldn’t recommend adding any more than that anyway. If you add a very large number of slides it can slow down page loads and use a large amount of bandwidth. This can have a big impact on mobile users who are limited to specific bandwidth amount. I would recommend using the homepage slider to show a few choice photos and then use the theme’s galleries to show a larger number of photos.

Leslie Mc Curdy January 3rd, 2013

Hello,
I have been using this theme for one site and so far is working fine. But now I’m trying to set up another site using the same theme but the slide and the Slide and the Galleries aren’t working. I’ve notice that since the WordPress upgrade to version 3.5, when uploading an image the options “Use as a featured image” and the image size aren’t there anymore. Could this be the problem?
Thanks.

Steven Snell January 7th, 2013

Hi Leslie,
I will look into the issue.

Surge March 1st, 2013

Great theme! Works excellent. One question however, is it possible to add text above or below the slider on the homepage? If I enter text on the home-page this does not appear on the site.

Kind regards,
Surge

Steven Snell March 1st, 2013

Hi Surge,
If you want to enter text above or below the slider you would need to edit the php file for the homepage template.

Serge March 22nd, 2013

Hi Steven,

thanks for your comment regarding the text above the slider. I now have another question. When using the standard WordPress gallery and 3 columns with thumbnails, a part of those thumbnails will be shown through the sidebar. Of course it is possible to configure 2 columns, but I prefer 3 columns. Do you have a solution for this?

Here you can see what I mean: http://www.qpictures.nl/wordpress/familieportretten/test/

Regards,
Serge

Steven Snell March 22nd, 2013

Hi Serge,
Since the theme has its own gallery system it is not intended to be used with the default WordPress gallery. As a result, no testing was done with those galleries, so I am sorry but I don’t have any suggestions.

Adeola March 27th, 2013

Hello, When I installed and activate the theme, this is how it looks via this link:
http://seun.goshentechng.com/
Please how do I make it look like the one in the template demo, Thanks

Steven Snell March 27th, 2013

Adeola,
Please refer to the theme documentation. It shows how to set up the theme.

Daniëlle April 16th, 2013

Hi!

I’m using the theme, but I can’t do the slideshow because I don’t see the same option you are showing in WP admin. Do you have something for the newest version?
Because I set a featured image but it doesn’t work :(

Steven Snell April 17th, 2013

Hi Danielle,
No, we don’t have any documentation with screenshots from the most recent version of WordPress. Did you set the home page to use the “home” template? That is the issue with most users who are having trouble with the slider not showing up.

Serge April 25th, 2013

Hi Steven,

thanx for your latest answer a while back.
Website is almost ready, but I have 2 issues:

1. How can I get the iframe to be shown wider on this page: http://www.qpictures.nl/bestellen/ (I already removed the right sidebar on this page)?

2. The dates of postst are not shown correctly, for example here: http://www.qpictures.nl/moederdagactie/. It says april 4, 2013, but that should be april 24, 2013. It looks like the 4 corresponds with the month, in this case April as the 4th month of the year.

Regards,
Serge

Steven Snell April 26th, 2013

Hi Serge,
For the issue with the iframe you would either need to decrease the width of the iframe that you are entering, or increase the width of the content area. Just because you removed the sidebar does not mean that the content area will be wider. You would need to edit the CSS to do that.

For the date issue, it looks like there is an error in the code. Go to the editor (Appearances > Editor) and open the single.php file. Find this code:

<?php the_time('F n, Y'); ?>

And change it to:

<?php the_time('F j, Y'); ?>
Theresa Cutting May 22nd, 2013

Hi Steven – just a quick question. I have setup multiple slides for the home page slideshow however only one image keeps circling – did I miss a step somewhere? I have checked the documentation and I simply just see where it states to keep adding slides in order to add new images to the slideshow.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you!

Steven Snell May 23rd, 2013

Theresa,
In the WP dashboard click on “Slides”. Here you’ll see a list of all the slides you have entered. Do you see just one, or several? If there are several you can click on the titles that you gave the slides and you should see a thumbnail of the photo (to the right of your screen). Those images should be shown in the slider.
