Auto Focus Responsive WordPress Photography Theme

Auto Focus allows photographers to have a quality website without the cost of a custom design, and even without the cost of purchasing a template. It is named Auto Focus because  of its ability to adapt on the fly to users on different devices, using responsive design. Regardless of whether your visitors are viewing your site on a desktop monitor or on a mobile phone, they’ll be able to use a site that is optimized for them.

Auto Focus comes with 5 different color schemes, so you’ll have the option to choose a color scheme that works best for you (screenshots from the color schemes are shown below).

With the use of WordPress’s custom menus and widgets you’ll have control over the content shown in your site’s sidebar and which links are included in the navigation menu.

The theme uses a custom post type for portfolio items/photographs, and you can create an unlimited number of galleries for organizing them.

Documentation for the theme is available here.

It is indeed a great resource to obtain information on this subject..

Hi guys,

I’m so sorry, but once again technically speaking this is not a (fully) responsive theme. As commented earlier, RWD needs 3 principles: fluid grid, fluid media and media queries.

By inserting 20 breakpoints in your design, doesn’t make your media, content and/or imagery fluid! So, call this an adaptive mobile friendly design, but not responsive .. please!

Ciao!

Steven Snell August 25th, 2012

Gonzo,
I don’t disagree with your point, and actually I debated referring to the theme as “adaptive” or “responsive”. In the WordPress theme market there are many themes (both free and premium) that are referred to as responsive that are not fluid. Since it seems to be the common definition among other themes I went with responsive.

Fantastic free theme, plain and simple but gets the content to stand out. Very useful to get people started on the way to responsive web design!

I’m loving the theme. The documentation would be better, though, if it offered instructions on showing photographs in Portrait orientation. Also, what’s the ideal size at which to upload photographs?

Steven Snell August 30th, 2012

Bertie,
Thanks for pointing out the issue with adding images in portrait orientation. I will work on that issue and update the theme. The ideal size is 940 pixels in width, that is the largest size that is shown on the site.

Bertie August 31st, 2012

Many thanks, Steven. Looking forward to adding some portrait pics to my site!

Steven Snell September 11th, 2012

Bertie,
The theme has been updated to allow for portrait photos to be added.

Bertie September 17th, 2012

Hello again Steven,

I’m sorry for my ignorance, but should I download a new version of AutoFocus? I’m not seeing an update in WordPress.

Steven Snell September 18th, 2012

Bertie,
Yes, you would need to download it again. Our themes aren’t setup through the WP auto update system.

Hi Steven

I’m being a pest, I know, but the download link above doesn’t seem to make any difference to the site I’m working on (russellsleaper.com). I’ve tried loading a picture in portrait orientation without luck. Is there another download link available, please?

Many thanks

Steven Snell October 1st, 2012

Hi Bertie,
No, there is no other download link. The link above downloads the most recent version of the theme. Did you upload the new theme to your site to replace the old version of the theme? If you send your WordPress username and password along with your URL to info@vandelaydesign.com I will take a look at it.

HiHi Steven,
There is no option to add gallery as navigation menu (but in documentation its mentioned ) but option is not available in original can u help me?

Steven Snell November 12th, 2012

Hi Shriganesh,
If you don’t see the option to add galleries to the menu you will need to click on “screen options” at the top right of your screen. Then check the box for gallery and when you scroll down you should see the list of galleries and be able to add them to the menu.

Steven Snell November 27th, 2012
