40+ of the Best WordPress eCommerce Themes
Published in WordPressWhile there are plenty of options available when choosing an eCommerce platform, the possibility of using WordPress for eCommerce has become more enticing in recent years due to continued development of plugins and themes. Today there is no shortage of quality themes that can be purchased, or in some cases downloaded for free, to use WordPress for powering an eCommerce website.
One of the main benefits of having WordPress as an eCommerce option is that so many users and developers are already familiar with WordPress, so the learning curve can in some cases be shorter than with another platform. Another advantage is that WordPress is free to use and can be hosted anywhere. Many of the leading eCommerce options require your site to be hosted with them, which can be a good thing, but it’s not what every user wants.
Having a custom theme designed and developed is always an option, but the improving quality of available premium themes makes it possible to start a professional-looking eCommerce site with very little upfront investment. In this post we’ll showcase more than 40 eCommerce themes for WordPress, and every one of them sells for less than $100.
Some eCommerce themes come with their own eCommerce functionality built in to the theme, but most are designed and developed to integrate with one or more of the leading eCommerce plugins for WordPress. Those plugins include WooCommerce, Jigoshop, WP e-Commerce, and Cart66.

That’s a huge and great collection of WP themes. I have used the “estore” theme myself for one of my friend’s eCommerce site. The process was a breeze and the customization was very simple. I was able to get a professional eCommerce website up and running in just 2 days. Imagine how long it would have taken if we’ve built an eCommerce site from the scratch. We love WP and the plethora of themes available
Thanks for sharing your experience Glenn.
There are some great WordPress Ecommerce Themes available from the guys at WooCommerce, the only downside is requiring their plugin, but it does make life easier for non developers and is a great platform for designers and developers to build on to. Some nice examples here.
Thanks for posting the eCommerce Themes with price.
It would be nice if you could create another list with FREE themes. Just a friendly suggestion
Hi Raj,
The problem is that there are not very many decent e-commerce WP themes available for free. They are more complicated to design and develop, so the free options are very limited. If you’re starting an e-commerce site you’ll be much better off to spend $50 and get a quality theme.
Was looking for a theme for a new store and found these, will need to look closer as some look very smart, particularly like the look of the Organic Shop. I don’t suppose you know if I can use the cart from EcommerceTemplates or does it have to be woocommerce?
Laura,
You would need to use the e-commerce plugin that the theme is designed/developed to work with. If WooCommerce is the only one mentioned you would have to use that plugin, unless you wanted to make significant customizations to the theme.
Thanks Steven, understood. I’ll see if I can find a more generic theme to start from.
Thanks for this information! I am in the process of learning WordPress and am a little confused with the difference between an ecommerce theme and ecommerce plugin. It may be just a terminology thing but if I am creating an ecommerce site to sell physical goods do I need to use an actual ecommerce theme or just add an ecommerce plugin to any theme I choose? Maybe I need both? Any clarification or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! LuCile.
LuCile,
Most of these e-commerce themes are designed specifically to work with a particular plugin. In these cases the plugin actually handles the e-commerce functionality, the theme just includes design and styling so that you can easily implement the plugin. There are a few themes that actually include the e-commerce functionality built in. These themes would not require a plugin, but there are not many themes like this. The simple answer is yes, you can use an e-commerce plugin with any theme. However, the benefit of using a theme that is designed to work with the plugin is that you know there will be no capability issues between the theme and the plugin, and everything will be designed and styled appropriately. I hope that helps.
Hi Steven,
Great review…quick question..
I know am putting the cart ahead of the horse here…what if I wanted to add features to a site. For example, a feature whereby folks have bought product A are also buying product B and C. Thanks.
Hi Joe,
If you’re talking about related products being shown on the product page, some themes would have that functionality built in, but you would have to check that with the specific theme that you are looking at. If you’re talking about sending an email to people who bought product A, you would need to have that functionality in your mailing list system to know who purchased product A.
Hi Steven,
Thank you for sharing the info.
I am planing for Mayashop, is it possible to add some more static pages like (about us, services, disclaimer ) ?
Hi Sam,
With WordPress you can create any pages that you need, although if you have specific questions about the theme you should contact the theme developer as they will have much more info about their theme than I will.
Thanks for the info. Can you speak to the advantages/disadvantages to using one of these themes vs integrating an open source solution like Magento into your WordPress site?
Daniel,
One of the biggest advantages of using WordPress is that many users are already familiar with WordPress and it means they won’t have to learn a new system. Also, many designers/developers work with WordPress, so there are a lot of choices for someone looking for a designer. The last thing I’ll mention is that if your site is already using WP and you want to use some other system for the shop on your site it will mean logging in to two separate places if you plan to keep the site/blog on WP and the shop with another system.
(sorry for my english) I want to purchase Mazine or Phomedia for my webshop. My question: is it possible to feature all twelve categories on the homepage without scrolling to the left or right instead of only six with the scroll?
Hi Roos,
You would have to ask the developer of the theme. We don’t sell the themes, we are just linking to them.
Ok, Thanks
Here’s another free ecommerce theme
http://readyshoppingcart.com/product/free-wordpress-e-commerce-theme/
but it’s for Ready! Ecommerce wp plugin
Hi Steve. I am fairly new to the ecommerce website building, however I am good at using photoshop and illustrator, but don’t know much HTML and CSS. T herefore my question is, if I choose as theme (one of the above for e.g.) can I customise the look it to my liking by using graphics I have made myself in photoshop (such as upload an image to the background, change the button styles, and boarders around the edge of the site etc.) or am I pretty much stuck with the design and layout that is presented in the sample?
Hi James,
When you buy a WordPress theme you will get all of the coded files that make up the theme/template. So you can edit anything you want, it’s just a matter of how easy or difficult it is. If you’re not very familiar with HTML and CSS you will be pretty limited. Some themes will have functionality to let you change things like backgrounds from within the WordPress dashboard without touching the code, but that will vary from one theme to the next. I would recommend finding a theme that you like, decide what details you would like to change, and contact the theme seller to see if it can be customized from the WordPress dashboard without any coding.
Out of all of these themes, which would you say, is the most apt to improve sales? In other words, which one of these themes has the best features for selling product whether it’s through enhanced SEO capabilities or overall customer-centric features? E-commerce has been around long enough to establish what works and what doesn’t and I’m just wondering if WP developers are taking any of that into consideration when they build themes. For example, why do none of these themes have a comprehensive product search feature in a sidebar? That seems to be a standard practice for successful e-stores. Appreciate your input.
Hi Kanon,
There is not one theme that is the best. It would depend on your situation and which theme best fits the specific needs of your site. Most of the themes use one of a few different ecommerce plugins (WooCommerce, WP eCommerce, or Jigoshop), so the ecommerce functionality is really handled by the plugin and not the theme. The theme is just designed to integrate with the plugin.
Pls help me! Is ShopPress theme the same as ShopperPress theme???
Mal,
I’m not familiar with ShopperPress, so you would have to contact the developer of the theme and ask that question.
thanks so much
all nice theme
Hi Steven,
Nice themes!
but free quality themes exist… “Bottstrap eCommerce” theme is an example.
It is a professional FREE theme for thecartpress plugin. You can take a look at demo:
http://demo.thecartpress.com/
Responsive. Full website support. Free.
Independent sidebars for different parts of your site:
Coorporative pages, Blog, Store (TheCartPress + marketplace support), Authors, Searches, Account, Community (Buddypress support).
I think it might be interesting to your audience, It is not my intention to span your post.
Regards
Luis
Hi Luis,
Yes, I understand that free eCommerce themes do exist. However, I don’t think the free themes I have seen, including this one you have linked to, match the quality of themes that can be purchased for around $50.
thanks for sharing. these themes are very useful lol
Just wanted to post a fair warning to all who are interested in the mearishop theme. It has more bugs than than a NYC sewer and even less support. If you don’t know code, you will be wasting alot of time trying to get the damn thing to work while the publisher promises help. Also every time there is an update to woocommerce or WP, the damn thing breaks. Stay away… just not worth it.
