Business cards are very essential not only for freelancers but also for business owners. It represents the identity of a person at professional level. The more professional is the business card the more people will take you seriously.
It is worth spending some few bucks for the business cards, to make your identity strong and marked.

Excellent collection..I like the valid source for the betterment of the site promotion also the value of the templates…keep sharing.

Make sure you include your web/email address on your business cards that is ciritcal in todays market. Also consider a foreign language on the backside with the same info if yous ell interationally.

Mark May 5th, 2010

That transparent one is awesome (if it’s quality material). I’ve always had the mindset that simple is best, looking over this little gallery you have hear is making me question that…

Oh well, just ordered 1000 cards so I’m gonna suck it up and keep this in mind for when I lose this box of business cards ; )

Félix GG May 5th, 2010

No GIMP stuff for Linux people? :-)

Marc May 5th, 2010

Who needs those, unless you’re a twelve year old schoolgirl. They make every business look like a joke. Be authentic. Hire a designer, people.

Rachel May 5th, 2010

Fabulous collection of business cards..thanks for the list….

Carson Shold May 5th, 2010

Some great designs here, but most, if not all designs are targeted to designers. If you are a designer that takes your profession seriously, I highly suggest you design your own business card rather than use a template.

Jared Detroit May 5th, 2010

Great card designs. Envato has some great stuff for templates including web sites.

I’m having a unique business card designed but always like sending over biz card inspiration to my designer. Definitely quite a few here that fit that bill.

Simon | Profit Duck May 5th, 2010

Looks great. Will be making one of these soon, using these as inspiration of course ;)

Caddis Tech SEO May 5th, 2010

Some nice templates here. Anyone use plastic cards? They look cool but I am sure they are a bit pricey and of course not the best for the environment.

Carson,
I would agree, but I think it depends on what type of design you do. If you offer services related to print design then I think it’s almost mandatory. Personally, I don’t offer business card design services, or other types of print design, to clients so I really don’t feel the need to have something designed by me.

Tim May 5th, 2010

Vandelay, if you do any kind of design, you should be designing your own business card. Any company for that matter, should have unique business cards. Your card is part of your company’s identity. It should have your logo, it should follow your styleguide including color, design elements, and printing techniques if applicable, and the branding should carry across letterhead, envelopes, AND your website. These items are your face to the world before the world sees your face.

If I get a card from someone and then go to their website and it looks nothing like the branding on the card, then I’m not hiring them to design things for me because they obviously don’t know how to be consistent in their design.

So, while it’s nice to look at business cards for inspiration, people should not use these for a professional company. You may as well go and grab some free logos off some logo assembly line site as well.

Tim,
I agree with you that it should have your logo, use the same colors and style. What I was intending to communicate is that I don’t think that a web designer would have to design their own cards (in response to a previous comment). For example, hiring a graphic designer to do it or starting with a basic template and using your own logo and colors, customizing the template. You say “if you do any kind of design, you should be designing your own business card.” Why? That’s like saying a fashion designer should be designing their own website. I agree that in an ideal situation a web designer would design their own card, but I don’t think there is anything shady or unethical having someone else do it if you’re not a pro at designing for print and if you do not offer those services.

Tim May 6th, 2010

Well, to be completely honest, I would never call myself a web “designer” if I wasn’t a graphic designer first and foremost. You have to know how to design in general before you can design for a specific medium. It usually involves thumbnail sketches on a piece of paper and then advances from there. Or maybe I am just old school?
I would agree that if you are only a web “developer” that you should probably hire a designer to not only design your cards, but also your website, because most developers I’ve met are better with code than with colors.
Regardless, you should never use free templates for a professional business, whether it be business cards, letterhead or WordPress templates. They take away from the uniqueness of your own company. Isn’t having unique branding for your company worth it?

e11world May 6th, 2010

Really beautiful collection. I think the cards with texture designs on them stand out more than others. Nice post!

Tim,
I’m not just talking about web designs, you said someone who does any design should design their own cards. That’s a very broad statement. I’m also not saying that a web designer would be incapable of designing business cards, simply that if they don’t have the time or are unsure of the details of setting up the document for print there is nothing unethical about not designing it yourself. That’s not saying that the web designer is incapable of the design aspect of a card, but there are other things involved. Regardless, the post wasn’t intended specifically for designers, it was intended for anyone that needs a business card. Just because a business card template says “graphic designer” doesn’t mean it can’t be used for some other profession. That said, I’d like to thank you for disagreeing with me in a professional manner. Some commenters that don’t agree with something take a different approach and I appreciate you backing up your opinion and being polite.

Cool Design and color card i want to make it one for my business.
Nice cards You can Share thanks.

Tim May 6th, 2010

Well, what I am saying is that if you (not you personally, but a general you) own a company and need a business card, you should invest in having a designer create one for you rather than using freebies that absolutely anyone can download and use. You should definitely do this if you are any kind of designer. And I do mean ANY. People are coming to you for your creativity at whatever it is you do and handing them a biz card that is not branded to represent your company says a lot.

Take this example. Here is a site that is offering free logos for anyone to use however they want.
http://www.appslog.com/blog/1-blog/886-huge-log-of-free-photoshop-logos.html
It’s the same thing. Would you (personally) ever use a logo that is not original and created specifically for your company?

Aside from that, if someone is not a designer or somehow associated with the visual arts, chances are they are not going to know how to use Photoshop well enough to do anything with these. And definitely not Illustrator. If they do know how to use Photoshop, what’s going to happen is that they will most likely make some text edits, then save out the final file as a JPEG, possibly even at 72dpi because they think everything should be 72 or 96dpi JPEGs (I’ve dealt with enough clients to know this) and then they’ll send the file to Kinko’s to be printed and it will look like cr@p. So, in the end it is still better to hire someone to do it right in the first place.

As I said before, this is still a nice list for inspiration, though.

Tim,
You make a good point about the average person not knowing how to save and prepare the file properly.

Hi! Thanks for posting these lovely business card templates. What’s good about it is the wide range of designs to choose from. Each design has unique elements, so i salute you as a designer. Keep it up!

J32 May 8th, 2010

I like the designs in this post. The designers on graphicriver have a lot of good business card designs.

As for Tim…well I see your point, but you would be surprised how many actually buy business cards that aren’t made specifically for their company. That includes logos too. I design business cards on a Print on Demand website. I have customers that order regular business cards with the same design from me. A lot of smaller companies don’t have the money to hire a designer or they simply don’t want to spend it. The Internet is full with possiblities to get a design and a logo on a business card or letterhead which fits your business and is still good enough to make the customer say “aww nice business card”.

We print the popular frosted clear plastic cards and work with lots of graphic designers who create stunning designs for their clients and then send the artwork to us to print the cards and deliver them under plain cover to their client.

lauren July 13th, 2010

tim makes a good point, but as long as the style and colors match, I think things can look consistent.

like i saw a few on http://www.1businesscardtemplates.com that didn’t have logos on them, but were nicely design. lets say a salon picks one with a purple theme. as long as they incorporate their own logo, and also match their other marketing stuff with those same colors and style (if the card is modern, the site shouldn’t be traditional), it will look consistent.

Great designs. Thanks for sharing. I’ve noticed in the printing business that the majority of people who aren’t designers have very little knowledge of file preparation. Templates such as these are a great starting point.

Another great list ideal for ideas and inspiration. I like YU Quirky Business Card the most simply because of the colors it’s bold and very understated.

If you are a designer, and you us a template for your business card, you are either a hack or are out to gouge your clients. If you can’t design a business card for yourself… you’re in the wrong profession.

Vandelay Website Design February 2nd, 2011

Joe,
The templates can be used by other professions apart from designers.

Ifeanyi February 10th, 2011

Talha February 25th, 2011

Sorry but I have a newbie question… If you use any of these templates, would you then have to print them out at like FedEx Kinkos?

Vandelay Website Design February 25th, 2011

Talha,
No, you could print them anywhere. You could use an online printing service like http://uprinting.com.

There are a few pros/cons to consider when you’re thinking about using a template for something like a business card:

PROS:

- Templates look decent and are inexpensive
- They be produced quickly
- A design expert isn’t required to customize them

CONS:

- Templates, by nature, are unoriginal designs
- The look & feel and messaging of the card is not customized to the client’s individual needs
- Unable to utilize interesting print techniques

Sometimes clients have a very limited budget, and want to get a card made very quickly with a very limited budget. We caution our clients against this, though, because we believe very strongly that to be successful, branding and design must be customized to fit every individual situation. What makes sense for one hair salon, probably doesn’t make sense for another — even if they’re a block apart on the same street.

Nice post, I particularly liked the translucent plastic business cards. I feel like it gives a vibe of professionalism because of the much more permanent material as opposed to the paper ones that you just throw away like nothing
