Showcase of Twitter Integration on Blogs

Published in Galleries

You’ve probably noticed that Twitter links and updates are now very commonly found on blogs. There are a few different ways that Twitter can be used and integrated into a blog, and this post will showcase 30 blogs that are promoting a Twitter account. Some show the most recent Tweets and others are simply icons and links to the Twitter page. There is a good bit of variety from these featured sites, so hopefully you’ll find some that you like.

If you like getting design inspiration by looking at excellent blog designs, you’ll love our new gallery site Blog Design Heroes.

Great list! I’ve integrated Twitter rather heavily on my site. Check it out http://colorburned.com/2009/04/tweet-this.html

Chris Wallace April 30th, 2009

I know it wasn’t on purpose, but you squeezed a @mashedjobs banner in there! Right on!

Fabian April 30th, 2009

Great way of personalizing a site. Can anyone please point me to a link on how this is done?

Fabio April 30th, 2009

@Fabian I started from this great tutorial:
http://css-tricks.com/video-screencasts/19-designing-a-unique-page-for-twitter-updates/

It’s so interesting to see how effective little details are: the choice of Twitter icon, the content of the Tweets and the way Twitter is integrated into the page. Thanks for compiling this inspiring list (and introducing us to some new blogs).

Patternhead April 30th, 2009

Great post, thanks.

It is disappointing to see how many have appropriated Iconfactory’s Twitterific icon. As far as I know, this is not in the public domain.

Liz Hover April 30th, 2009

I love these kinds of lists about Twitter. Thanks for putting it together. I have a little speech bubble on one of my blogs (actually my dog’s blog Sadie Shih Tzu social media puppy) for tweets: http://www.sadieshihtzu.com.

Bronson April 30th, 2009

Jay Hafling’s integration is kick-ass and definitely my favourite.

Design Inspiration May 1st, 2009

Ha, that’s awesome. I’m really loving some of these designs, and this blog as well, it looks great.

I used to have my Twitter on my blog, using a plugin called Lifestream, but I haven’t activated it since I am using a new theme that doesn’t look good with it. I’m gonna be switching themes soon though, so I can integrate Twitter into it. :)

Vandelay Design May 15th, 2009

Hi Lauren,
Here is my Twitter URL – http://twitter.com/stevensnell

Aha, the bird that’s virtually everywhere these days. The wide range of designs is ample testimony to the phenomenon that Twitter has become. One name – a million faces, eh? I liked the Origami twist on Doejo. Nice.

Thanks for including me on this list, shame my wp plugin was showing the ‘uh oh my twitter feed is down message’ lol

a great list so nice to be in there with them! :)

Anwar May 28th, 2009

Twitter for Small Business October 29th, 2009

What a great idea for a blog post! I’d not heard of the majority of these so thank you for introducing them. I particularly like Jay Hafling’s Twitter integration. Is this a special plugin or just a good bit of design?

Mr. tøjbutik March 1st, 2010

Very good list with much inspiration…. I’m not using Twitter yet, but when the day comes, I will come back here ;-)

Omer Greenwald March 5th, 2010

Nice.

Proper integration of social media is a design headache, but you’ve chosen some nice examples!

Thanks, lots of inspiring stuff there. Will come in useful at some stage no doubt.

This is some pretty interesting stuff although all of it is just a case of repeating your tweets onto a different website.

Does anyone integrate with Twitter and interact with their followers in a more unique and personallised way? There is nothing wrong with displaying a users tweets on their own website but we are looking for ways to do something a bit more special, and, if possible, more interactive.

The first example that we came up with was grabbing a load of tweets on a certain subject.
As we were exibiting at a business exibition called Let’s Do Business, we decided to make a hub page to do with the exibition. This page included a Twitter feed that grabbed tweets mentioning @letsdobusiness1, @Switchplane (our company), #ldbe and #cloudpun.
The result of which can be seen here http://www.switchplane.com/ldb/

The Twitter feeds on the left updates itself in real-time (no need to refresh the page). If you would like, give us a tweet at @Switchplane and watch your tweet appear. There is javascript that refreshed the time the tweet was sent every 15 seconds or so, and new tweets are checked for about every 2 minutes (due to restrictions with the API).

We are also working on some code to check if people have retweeted statuses, are following us, etc.. automatically in order for them to collect rewards.

I was wondering if anyone else has gone further with Twitter than just displaying Twitter statuses on an external website or if you have any cool ideas like the ones I have suggested above. Email me, tweet us or comment back. Cheers
