the only one i liked was six apart…
A very nice collection there Steven.
Is it my imagination or does there seem to be a trend toward huge font sizes on newer websites. I think some old school “print graphic design” elements are creeping back into website design. Back in the 1977 when I attended the Art Institute of Pittsburgh to study Visual Communications, big type was all the rage, especially in poster/event design………..
Does anyone else see this as a trend??
Eric
80% of these look no different than some of the templates being used by several top blog site providers… I mean, they’re clean and all, but they just seem ubiquitous.
How about this one? – retush.org
Good designs.Very simple and creative.
Thanks

Confident designs with the emphasis on content and striking typography – nice collection, thanks.
How about my portfolio? Looking for some feedback on it

I really think http://www.nofussreviews.com should be on this list.
One I saw a while back that should be on the list:
http://www.3plumes.com
Eric D, and others:
I see the trend. The ‘minimalist’ is geared towards the minimal color palette, as well as the minimal font differences and minimal ads. These sites could have been much more minimized with their lack of content.
Nothing new to see with these sites, unless clones of the Web 2.0 standard is suddenly new.
Mine can be considered minimalist, check it out. http://www.brennanbarney.com
Yes this is not that interesting or new, and as stated by a previous commenter these are just luke-warm copies of better designs that have gone before them.
And the people at Vandelay seem to like spamming their site all over the usual design blogs I see with useless articles like this.
I’m quite impressed with Poccuo & International Orange. Other designs are also equally impressive
Nice one, best collection of sites I’ve seen in a while.
Another great collection for inspiration!
I don’t know what it is about minimalistic designs that attracts me… but I guess less *is* really more sometimes!
Great collection. I love minimal designs so this was right up my alley
Wow, first off, I love this new design of your site Steven.. Hadn’t been here for some time but it sure is a treat to come back to such a nice post and the design… I’ll be getting my blog re-designed in a week or two so these will definitely come in handy
Let’s see – excellent, wow, inspiring, a knock out. Thanks.
Eric D,
Yes, I’ve noticed the trend to large fonts as well. I like it in the right situation. I think it’s great for emphasizing a simple message and making it stick. It’s not the best for every website though.
Nemetral,
I like it. It’s a nice, clean look.
StBlarth,
That’s fine that you don’t like this style of design, it’s a matter of personal preference. I’m not sure how I’m spamming anyone with this post. If you have an explanation, please leave it. And as far as the post being useless, it may not be helpful for you, but over 400 people have bookmarked it today, so it must not be useless to everyone.
Hi Vandelay,
Thanks for choosing my site to fit in such a nice selection : ) I’m getting a huge traffic and a lot of work requests today.
Keep up the good work!
Cheers,
Vitor Lourenco

Great motivation for me, thanks!

Thanks for this great list!
Would like to think that my new website is pretty minimal as well:
my Passion Project
Its a place for people to easily share what they love to do!
Prasanth, Clayton, Glen, and Winnie,
You’re welcome, and thank you for stopping by and commenting.
Stunning collection. I have to check out all of the full sizes and look them properly now
These are lovely. I’m a fan of simplistic professional design. I own a web design company and we do quite a bit of that. I’ve never tried the big text though, it looks great.
My site is here if anyone is interested:

BTW, been poking around this site. Looks great and good info too, you can bet I’ll be back.
Really nice!
I did also my portfolio in a minimal way… http://www.fabiodemarchi.com
Thanks for featuring Design Intellection! I’ve been away on vacation for the past week so this was a nice surprise to see on return.
By the way, I like the use of Georgia for the comment form. Very nice!
i’ve been looking for some inspiration like this, its great, thanks so much!
Thanks for the mention of Pixelhaven. It’s an honor to be included in such an inspiring list of websites!
I’m really into simplicity in web design and I think this site does a good job of doing that: http://www.idesignbrand.com/
Suprice. Thank you very much:)
I’ve been looking for inspiration for a piano-themed WordPress theme. Minimalism is key. Bit o black. Bit o white. A bit o fluff. These will come in handy.
nice collection, thanks.
Thanks for including the DS.Emotion site I designed last year!
Minimalist dark design for science site.
Includes math rendering using CSS+JS.
I’m a CPA but with emerging right-brain tendencies. Dont’ know enough to be a critic. I only know what works for me and the folks with the new agency where I’m a partner. I love the sites shown here. Too many sites today with useless, distracting clutter. I like this high-impact, billboard approach. Compelling, quick-to-understand and actionable.
beautiful websites.
These are good resources as well:

Thank you. Useful information!
very informative and very highly dedicated writer have published very good article i have really enjoyed it
Finally a list of minimalist websites that isn’t just a collection of Helvetica on a white background! That said, some of these websites are pretty busy and I wouldn’t really call them minimalist. But hey ho, design is subjective after all.
Those designs picked shows me you really know what to look for. Great finds….
Some really great sites. The Google Adwords one is Genius to be honest! Straight and too the point. I’d love to see his conversion from Visitor to enquiry. The question it raises, would be, how do you get such a simple website ranked 1st page of google without adwords?
Nice collection of sites, good to see lots of great typography… I love the Concentric Studio site.
Really beautiful and simple sites. An encouragement to think long and hard before filling all that beautiful white space. Less is more….
I don’t think you can call a website minimalistic just because there is little content on it and a huge background-image.
Some of these sites posted here are pushing themselves up by using a full-size background-image, and if you would’ve taken it away they would not look good anymore or interesting.
A lot of good posts though, no offence…
