25 Outstanding Minimalist Website Designs

Published December 20th, 2011 in Galleries

Minimalism is popular with many designers, primarily because the lack of clutter can help to create a positive user experience. While it is not a style that works in all situations (and what style does?), minimalism can be extremely effective when it is done effectively. It would seem that minimal websites would be easy to design due to the lack of excess, but achieving a high-quality minimal design can prove to be more difficult than expected. In this post we’ll provide some inspiration for you own work by showcasing 25 beautiful, minimal websites.

Michael,
Some people look at a minimal design and think it isn’t a good design because it lacks something. The point intended by that statement is that web designs don’t need to be flashy or extravagant, that minimal designs can be just as effective. The “when done effectively” part means that you can’t just slap together a plain website, call it “minimal” and think it is a great design that will get great results.

I like minimal design for website. But not many people like these minimal website design. Many think minimal design is effective for web designer’s portfolio only. Not for common websites.

Minimalist graphic design often means perfect. But every time someone creates
graphic with nothing. Very thin line of difference. Nice post in any case with interesting examples.

I would like to discuss about the ‘thema.de”, its really confusing people, its like almost no one use youtu.be, its just weird to type these domains, its more neat than really usable.

Very engaging content focused designs. It’s great using so few elements, so the imagery used really pops and the focus is clear.

Great collection of minimalist websites, I really like the designs that rely on nice typography, unfortunately not many of my clients would be interested in sites like these… thanks for sharing

Minimalist website design does not all have to be about using black and white. I think some of the most effective minimalist website designs are colorful. Minimalist websites can be a really effective design strategy for uncluttering traditional desings. Often there is little need for most of the features on the page. But a colourful page can really send a strong message and be an effective design strategy.

It was good to see “Bit this” and “Viljami Salminen” – both good examples of the effective use of color in minimalist design.

Great collections, I’m trying to make mine in this way.

Keeping things minimal help with conversion because calls to action are more focused with less distractions on the site. Like one other commenter mentioned, typography is always important in minimal designs because that is often all there is. This is a great collection and should inspire to help others create designs similar to this.
