Showcase of Sketches and Doodles in Web Design

Published in Galleries

Using a hand-drawn style of design is one way to create an interesting web design that visitors will remember. There are a lot of different approaches to using doodles and sketches, and in this post we’ll showcase examples for your own inspiration.

Some designers use hand-drawn elements like arrows and lines, while others use the hand-drawn style on text or even the background of the website. As you browse through the sites showcased here you’ll see a lot of creativity in how the doodles and sketches are used.

I’ve always loved the hand drawn / hand made look especially when it comes to web design. There’s a fascinating mix of typography and illustration that compliment each other really well. I love the typography in the Project 365 site. It manages to be fun and quirky whilst still maintaining an overall professional image. The Justdot site is also a great example of effective use of illustration in a site design. The background drawings and sketches really helps create a unique look and feel that draws in the user.

Hand drawn websites are always lovely. My favourite has to be Frocktastic. I love all the little frames around the clothing, its gives it a really original feel. I love the project365 website too, partially because the web design on it is fantastic. Justdot is is really busy but it works nicely with the chalkboard effect. It’s been nice to see some new websites being showcased.

Doodle websites are always great, but also hard to create. You really need to be a talented designer to create a quality hand drawn design.

I really love these sketch/doodle styled websites, just wish I had the creative talent to design one myself!

Some of these are cool. However, Project365 is not using doodles or sketches. They are using fonts. That is all. Not even well designed. Not sure why everyone is liking this one? The layout does not direct your eye in any kind of manner. There is no hierarchy of information except for scrolling down the page, but everything runs together where there isn’t an image thumbnail to break it up.
