33 Examples of the Flat Web Design Trend

Currently, one of the biggest trends in the web design industry is the flat design style. In case you are not yet familiar with the term, flat design is essentially design without the drop shadows, gradients, and textures that have been common in web design for some time. Flat design uses solid colors and often typography figures prominently into the design.

In this post we’ll showcase 33 excellent examples of the flat web design trend. Hopefully they can provide some inspiration that can be put to use in your own work.

One thing i noticed in these examples is they usually have some type of cartoon or hand drawn illustration.

Unfortunately I’m not good at drawing so it’s unlikely I can pull off something like the one’s you posted.

Is there a way to make a flat web design style still stand out without the illustration part?

you see already the trend towards art deco in modular design elements.
“jugendstil” could become a niche in 2014 for flat design.

I’m currently working on my own website and these examples were inspiring. I really like the emphasis on graphics, typography and design. So many websites today look like cookie-cutter sites. The flat design trend feels both retro and refreshing. Thanks for compiling these examples.

Some really great examples. Most seem to work because they are bold and well balanced. I wonder if they will look as well balanced on mobile devices.

As a designer I feel like in order to produce the next greatest design you have to design into complexity. I really appreciate this blog article because it encourages me to look at design with simplicity instead of worrying about all the rest of the little nuances. Thanks for the post!
