25 Creative Navigation Menus
Published in GalleriesNavigation menus are an integral part of any website, and a critical element in usability. Menus also frequently play a strong role in the visual design and layout of the site. Although there are some standard types of navigation menus that are typically used, some websites display creativity in their design of the menu. In this post we’ll take a look at 25 examples.
When designing navigation menus keep in mind that creativity should not overpower usability. If visitors can’t figure out how to use the menu it doesn’t serve it’s most important purpose.

It’s great to see some sites which are a little different. A bit of creativity makes it so much more memorable for visitors. Personally I love unconventional websites, they’re far more interesting. Thanks for sharing!
They’re are some amazing navigation here. I think the reason they work so well is not only the various ingenious rollover effects etc but its the fact that they all relate well to the subject matter and work as an important element to the sites overall concept and message. Its all well and good having a fancy navigation but if it doesn’t work as part of the site then it defeats the purpose. I particularly like the parallax effect used for the discover Tennessee site, and the illustration on the fantasy cartography site works really well to.

Personally, I love a bunch of these – I tend more towards icons than text I suppose.
I don’t know, maybe icons just make more sense to me from a ‘monkey evolution’ point of view – we’ve been making sense of shapes for millions of years, and written text maybe for the last 10,000 or so (citation neeed
So I just find it much more intuitive to click on an icon….of course, the icon has to makes sense…..

I think responsive navigation is the best way to go so no matter what device your visitor is on the navigation will look good. So one visitor could be on an iPod, one on a widescreen desktop computer, one on a laptop and one even looking at a big projector screen and they will all have a nice experience. Here are some great nav bars with and without a drop-down menu, and semi-transparent nav bars that will match any webpage background colour or design.
