That decision could potentially free you up for some real experimentation--and fun. I wanted to come up with a website that was more "interactive-design" than "usability-design," if that makes sense. I've watched lots of people see my site for the first time, and I always enjoy watching how they go about it--they're initially disoriented, then they start playing around and they discover how to operate the site as if its a game, or an actual interactive experience, instead of just a portfolio page. And they always enjoy themselves, in spite of not knowing what to do immediately. To me, that's worth the bounce rate--especially since I'm not relying on the site to bring me business.
