I know that youre (the author) just trying to make another tutorial list on the net to make some cash via your blog, & im all about that.. but my issue with all these “tutorials” is that they only teach process. not composition or creative value. I went to a major art college and majored in graphic design and advertising design, and what i see here, along with most tutorials on the web today, are shit. they look bad. most of you without any formal training think they are the best thing EvEr!! but no, wrong. you may learn some techniques and etc, but as far as actually looking good enough to be creative, beautiful pieces of art. they are not. just my two cents, i ask everyone to take the techniques from these and improve upon the compositions, otherwise, what you think looks great is only relative to your lack of experience. keep that in mind.

  • Vandelay Design, December 1, 2008

    John,
I agree that some are better than others. Most of the tutorials that are chosen for this list (or any of my lists) are selected because they teach some type of valuable technique for working with Photoshop. As you said, they teach the process. I agree with you that this is only half of the equation, but I don’t agree that we all think they are the best thing ever. My response to you is, if you think these tutorials are crap and people should be taught better design, why don’t you do it? The audience is there.

  • Vinoy, November 10, 2009

    hey,
i went through some of your creations here and think they are great… Learn’t a great deal but i was wondering how to extract a model or character with black or dark brown hair against a dark or black background. saw few techniques such as those using the Extract filter and Background eraser but they don’t work well against dark background, one cannot extract all of the hair strands using these technique to make the pictures realistic. do you have any suggestions? will wait for your reply..

  • Vandelay Website Design, November 10, 2009

    Vinoy,
It’s pretty difficult with dark hair on a dark background. I’m not aware of any good tutorials for that, I’m not not really sure what the best approach would be. Personally, I would try to get another photo to make life easier and to get a better selection.
