An offline resource I recommend is:
The Non Designers Type Book by Robin Williams
This book is full of the bare essentials of typography. It is VERY easy to read and a MUST HAVE for anyone starting out in typography.
I would also recommend Typography Resources Every Designer Should know.

Fantastic resource, certainly gets my thumbs up! However, I’d change the title to just 101 Typography Resources for Designers as you don’t want anyone thinking that you can just use these fonts for body text on a site…
