http://www.rgbstock.com/ has almost 60,000 free photos and graphics of a very high standard. They may be used commercially as illustrations, etc. They may not be used on merchandise (calendars, cards, t-shirts, coffee mugs, etc) unless the photographer or artist has given permission. The price is right, the quality is right, and the site is growing rapidly. It has been featured on several major websites.

Helpful list. I stumbled across it when looking for some free images. Another stock agency that I recently found useful (although not free) and might be worth mentioning is Fotegrafik, http://www.fotegrafik.com They have alot of photos with an Asian focus.

There are thousands of stock agencies with all manner of different licensing options. At Which Stock Agency (www.whichstockagency.com), we review, rate and rank the best ones out there. We also list all the current promotions, news and you can post personal reviews for individual agencies that you particularly like/dislike.

Maybe it worth include Photl.com to the free stock photo sites list and 123RF and Depositphotos.com to the paid services list. These sites are very interesting in their categories.

@Anthony: I was sad to see LuckOliver shutdown. I think my favorite right now is StockFresh.com. It is started by the same guys that launch StockXpert before it got sold.

@theimage: I have heard this opinion from many people that somehow microstock is ruining the industry. Just like other “disrupters”, microstock is changing an industry, not ruining it. We don’t cry to much because companies that made film have to find something else to do. I used to be a wedding photographer charging big bucks/per photo. No I “charge” little buck, but sell them all over. Just a thought.

As for photos, I find a lot of sites getting more expensive. I try and use http://www.imagetrail.net that lists a couple of sites and search from one place. They recently added StockFresh images. Its only natural as the agencies get reputation and time, they will raise prices to keep the photogs happy.

Just my thoughts.

Also check out http://arenacreative.com for creative RF stock images (graphics, vectors, AND photos) the collection is small, but since you are buying direct from the artist here, the prices are reduced. I sell this same collection under the rest of the above listed microstocks as well, in case you already have credits.

I agree with the first guy. Glad to see you added istockphoto to the list. My business has used that site often, and its great. Though as a photographer, the proliferation of great free/inexpensive stock agency causes me to wonder about the future of the profession.

But that’s change.
