I really like grafpedia, I think it is a good fresh design, both designs mix reality with animation really well and I think that it really stands out in the list

*Grin* So my 6 year old default design is now state of the art? Funny.
Well, those background or heading pictures all have 1 problem: They do not scale with varying window sizes. At least as long as they are not tileable. I’m not talented in painting or image modding, so for my default design i chose a photo of a landscape (a photo from the teton national park in the usa) and modified it so that it is horizontally tileable. It took me quite some time. I then cut off the sky (made this area transparent) and fixed the result with css to not scroll and stay at screen bottom. The background color is one of the original sky colors (just a random pixel). The result is quite flexible. It is graphically not perfect, but since i have no talent here, it’s acceptable for me. Most important is the flexibility. It adapts horizontally by tiling together the image horizontally and adapts vertically by letting more or less of the background color be visible as sky. For using a landscape as the visual design base this method seems optimal.
I’ve also experimented with a cloud/sky background (try one of my alternate styles), but the result is not that satisfying. The tiles always are visible. I’ve not found a really perfect cloud tile until now. Water as a background has similar problems. The problem with any visual design inspired by nature is the endless variability of nature.
