I'm biased as owner of Codecopia, a site that offers these services, but even so I would have to partially agree with you Arihant. If you have the skillset to perform these conversions yourself, then by all means. But even so, if you are looking to expand your online operations through outsourcing, or if you're looking to find a reliable partner who can handle the coding aspects of web design, or even if you're looking to cut costs on your projects then these services are a must.

The important thing is finding a quality and reliable service. Generally speaking, services that aren't backed by companies aren't as committed, and services charging less than $50 for a page don't have quality as a primary concern.

So given the views shared here, doing it by yourself seems to be the safest and best bet. Thanks for sharing this.

How do you do it? Well there's a million ways to code any given design into HTML and CSS, for starters.

The overall process goes like this:

1) Create a mental idea of how the page will be built
2) Translate that into HTML code.
3) Slice the PSD into various images
4) Use CSS to style the HTML (step2) using the images from step 3.

Step 1 becomes easier with experience because you can predict what you need to do and how to do it in order for things to work well in all browsers.

Step 2 is basically using your mental blueprint and writing the appropriate HTML. You can learn about HTML @ w3schools.

Step 3 involves using Photoshop or some other image editor to create the necessary page elements from the PSD such as the background, logo, etc.

Step 4 is tough and involves turning the raw HTML into the complete site using the images from step 3 and lots of well written CSS.

Not an easy process for a noobie, but if you're looking for a free way, doing it yourself is your best bet.

As far as paid services go, I'm fond of Codecopia (in Beta right now), and HTMLised. If you're looking for examples of excellent code, you should try these guys and see how they do it.
