I understand this post is from a few years ago. Nevertheless minimalist designs are equally prevalent even today. I think however that many of the minimalist sites today make use of large graphics or backgrounds, even if they are simple and don't have the usual slideshows, jqueries, etc.

Beautiful! But I wonder why such articles never focus on Non-design company related websites? Preaching to the choir is not as inspirational as showing how such work can be transformational in, say, the medical field, or education, or journalism.
Still...very brilliant work. But what else would we expect from professionals on our field.

It takes a lot of design sense to make a simple website look good. I enjoyed going through the sites.

Hi Vandelay,

This is a truly great collection of minimalist designs.

About that point - making it memorable - who says minimalist cannot be memorable?

And: sometimes, in their anxiety to see design surpass the lofty heights of words, designers tend to downplay textual content. My experience tells me that that is an almost contagious tendency among some designers. Why is that?

I'd guess both design and words have their own places - and very critical ones at that - in the area of communications. But seriously, it may well be just an illusion of mine.

The thing is, i just don't like it when people start making such silly comparisons.
It's like comparing Shakespeare and Van Gogh. The thousand words from the one cannot be compared to a picture by another. Hope everyone gets around this and such misconceptions.

Cheers,

Nikhil
