Although I do think you’re missing “Advanced Photoshop” on this list (Sister magazine of Web Desinger).
Keep up the good work!

Awesome.. very nice..

Computer arts is pretty good, but Web Designer magazine is seriously not worth the paper its printed on, bought it a few times, absolute waste of money, my advice, have a read in the shop before you buy, save yourself £5!
August 21st, 2008
Great list! However, Computer Arts is good for students, but Digital Arts is much better for those of us with proper jobs. It’s got a site at http://www.digitalartsonline.co.uk

Is there a reason why all the major magazines are based out of the UK?
August 21st, 2008
How many of these magazines have you actually read? Which are more highly recommended? I read the Website Magazine and didn’t get through more than a few pages before I threw it away. Anyone else have direct experience?

[...] Some nice reads I came across today include; DevloperFox’s 13 hand-picked Vertical and horizontal CSS Menus, aComment’s 9 Top CSS Essential Skills That Every Web designer Should Learn, and check out their list of developer icon sets, everybody loves a good icon countdown And if you are into reading design and programming magazines then check out Vandelay’s Blog for the 12 Print Magazines for Web and Graphic Designers [...]

Where’s Graphis, The International Journal of Visual Communication? Graphis magazine has been around since 1944. It’s probably better than all the others on the list. It focuses exclusively on international design and visual communication rather than the latest Photoshop filter or web fad. Get acquainted with it.

Wow, I had no idea that some of these magazines existed!
From what I can tell, the subscription method is a bit muddled on a few of these. While I’ve always been an opponent to marketing spam (especially in the physical realm. Have you ever sat down and collected all the marketing messages you’ve received, then used that as your average to calculate how many trees are killed every year in mail that just gets thrown away? …but I digress)…
…I’d be willing to put my name down on a list to get a few of these regularly.

Marco,
Thanks. I’m not familiar with that one.
Spence,
I agree it’s best to give it a look in a store if you can. I thought Web Designer was ok.
Constantine,
I agree that Digital Arts is a great resource, however, the whole purpose of the post was to point out the available print magazines, not online magazines. Therefore it wasn’t included.
Brett,
I’ve wondered the same thing.
James,
I’m familiar with the first half of the list, the rest was researched. My favorite is .net.

great magazines.thanks for this list!!!
August 22nd, 2008
For me .NET magazine takes it. I am more into the design for practicality side and enjoy reading about the design side of things as opposed to creating beautiful sites that will never be seen as they are accessible enough.
August 22nd, 2008
Great job man!
I ‘m on subscription to both Computer Arts and Computer Arts Projects, the Projects always have an applicable learning tutorial that is implementable, based upon the theme of that issue.

Thanks for sharing…
August 23rd, 2008
Thanx for sharing a nice list of magazines
August 24th, 2008
Gotta agree with Spence. I bought Web Designer twice. Not worth the money to me… especially here in the US.
August 28th, 2008
Been reading .NET for a few years and also CommArts - will have to check out the others. .Net rocks.

What is so bad about Web Designer Magazine? I havent read it myself, but what i saw on their website looks cool. The sample chapter on their site is very minimal. Does anybody know where I can look at more of their magazines?
Also, I found a few other Web magazines that I haven’t read myself. I am just wondering why they were omitted from the list. They are:
Flex Developer’s Journal, AjaxWorld Magazine, JDJ, SOAWorld Magazine, Opensource Magazine - http://www.sys-con.com/general/subscribe.htm
August 31st, 2008
Chris,
They weren’t omitted for any particular reason. The list was put together by magazines that I have read personally plus some online research that I did. If those others look good, check them out.
August 31st, 2008
It’s very important to keep up with industry news via trade journals and niche magazines which you may not find on the web.
August 31st, 2008
But what news in this industry would be in a trade journal and not on the web?? I’m just curious…any examples?
August 31st, 2008
James,
The stuff that I enjoy out of the magazines isn’t news as much as just tutorials and learning resources. I think I just enjoy changing things up and reading a print publication since I’m on the computer so much.

Hi
What is so bad about Web Designer Magazine? Does anybody know where I can look at more of their magazine?
January 3rd, 2009
Thanks for the list of magazines. However, I would only go for the magazines if I am looking for the latest trends and technologies being used. If I seriously need to learn something I would go for the books and online tutorials.
