Vandelay Design's Best of 2007

This blog launched in March of 2007 and began posting consistently in July. It has seen much more success than I initially anticipated, and that constantly motivates me to keep improving. Thank you to everyone that has found this blog at some point and kept on reading. I know most of you were not around for many of the earlier posts, so in case you missed something, here is a collection of the best work of 2007.

I hope that 2008 brings even more success, and I know for that to happen I need to focus on meeting the needs of readers. With that in mind, please leave a comment to let me know what topics you would like to read about in the coming months. Also, if you are a reader but not typically a commenter, I would love to hear from you. I occasionally get emails from people who tell me they’ve been reading for a long time but never commented. It’s nice to know a little bit more about readers, so please consider taking a moment to introduce yourself.

Congratulations, Steven! Your success is well-deserved. Your blog is among my favourite ones in the blogging/design/social media/marketing areas. With your talent you proved that there’s no such thing as an oversaturated niche.

(…) please leave a comment to let me know what topics you would like to read about in the coming months.

I’m pretty sure I’ve asked for it on another occasion, but just in case, I’m going to repeat it: it would be great if you wrote design-related articles with a focus on accessibility issues. After all, disabled people should never be alienated, but many webmasters and bloggers don’t know what is necessary to make their sites accessible to such a special audience.

Web-design posts in a “for dummies” style would be much appreciated too. And more experiments with social media will always be welcome.

Keep up the great job and have a wonderful New Year! :)

    Hi Steven,

Your success is a breath of fresh air and I second Karen’s comment about your blog. You consistently manage to write interesting posts and your weekly links are always worthy of checking out further.

Through you I have discovered a many great bloggers and I’m sure you will keep writing top content as time progresses. I also wish you all the best for 2008. May all your wishes come true.

    Hi Steven,

Happy New Year! Just wanna tell you that you are one of the bloggers who have influenced my blogging style and direction this year :D

    Keep it up!

Congratulations on the fantastic year Steven. Really well deserved. :D

As for the articles, I think I’ll flick back through a load of them again. Undoubtedly worthwhile! The Domino Effect was my favorite social media article ever, though I still haven’t put it in place properly yet…

    Good luck for 2008!

    Karen,
Thanks for reading and commenting. Thank you very much for leaving some suggestions. The accessibility issue has been on my “to do” list for a while now. It’s a subject that I’ll want to make sure to cover pretty thoroughly and research well to make sure everything is accurate. That’s why it hasn’t been done already. Hopefully soon I’ll have the time to effectively cover that topic.

    Monika,
Thanks for your compliments and your best wishes. I appreciate having you as a reader and commenter.

    Pablo,
    Thank you. I appreciate that.

    Michael,
Thanks, I’m glad you like the domino effect article. That’s one of my favorites too because I know it works for me and I know it can work for others too. If you ever need a vote for anything let me know.

Hi Steven, Congratulations on having such a successful year. I am glad to have found your blog and needless to say, I’ve been addicted to your wonderful articles…

Looking at your categories, I see most of the articles you wrote are for blogging and design and may be that’s whats most popular too but since you have a category CSS and WordPress, I’d really like to know if you plan to write more on these subjects.

May you have much more success with your blog, your business and in life, in 2008 and beyond!

  • Vandelay Design, December 31, 2007

    Hi Pearl,
Thanks for commenting. I actually wrote a few more posts about WordPress before I started the WordPress category, but you’re right, there’s not that much on WordPress and CSS. I can try to cover those topics a little bit more. Thanks for the suggestions.

A lot of good ideas – for optimization php and sql has to be more object oriented or ? Adaption and modification of source often is very difficult. And templates has to be more sophisticated by the open source thought. Often there are personal interests and benefits in foreground.
